A newly-acquired multi-million pound property in Wirral is benefiting from a full refurbishment and renovation program. Prior to works commencing, a series of strip out and preparation works have been requested including the removal of asbestos within the basement areas.
Asbestos was identified in the form of pipe lagging throughout the boiler room and under croft. Upon inspection, AS suggested a two phase removal plan, focusing on the two areas individually and developing a low level confined space strategy within the undercroft area.
Dave Coleman, Managing Director of Asbestos Services UK said: "Asbestos was identified to the heating pipes with an added risk of flammable liquids feeding the boiler house. Whilst the removal of the asbestos was fairly straight forward, a full confined access risk assessment was implemented in the event of an emergency."
A decontamination unit was installed at the point of exit from the basement to ensure none of the harmful substances escaped in the main building. A team of five were based at the site for some two and half weeks during which time, all asbestos was removed.
Dave added: "The project was completed to the estimated timescales without incident, ready for the next phase of works to begin in a safe and secure environment."
