The enemy within: Where asbestos can be found

Asbestos can found in any home built before 2000 and is hidden in various parts of a property, some obvious and some less so.

Be aware of the potential for asbestos in the following areas:

• Panels in fire doors
• Asbestos cement water tank
• Loose fill insulation
• AIB ceiling tiles
• Toilet seat and cistern
• Partition walls
• Vinyl floor tiles
• Around boilers
• Textured coatings on walls and ceilings
• Panels in fire doors
• Free call-outs and estimates
• Lagging on boilers and pipes

Asbestos can also be found on many external parts of a home dependent on whether asbestos was used in the manufacturing of materials used.

Look out for asbestos in:

• the roof
• panels
• the soffits
• the chimney flue
• the gutters and downpipes
