Case Study: Social Housing Asbestos Removal - Removal of asbestos within social housing stock for housing association on behalf of facilities management

Client: Evolve Facility Services Ltd (on behalf of Riverside Housing Association).

March 2015

Asbestos Services UK was appointed to deliver a fast track asbestos removal programme for Evolve Facilities management acting on behalf of Riverside Housing Association.

The isolated residential property in Liverpool involved close tenant liaison from the outset, requiring zero occupation in order to allow works to take place.

A full enclosure was established at the entrance to the property (within the hallway area) where asbestos was located as a fire protection surround to the gas meter cupboard. A decontamination hygiene unit was set up directly outside the property and all necessary third parties informed of any ongoing works.

As part of the safety programme, the gas supply was isolated by Evolve engineers prior to works beginning. Upon completion, a 4 stage air monitoring clearance was carried out by a UKAS independent analytical company appointed by the client.

The works were completed under a strict one day schedule to allow the tenant to return to the property as planned with no disruption caused.

Dave Coleman, Managing Director of Asbestos Services UK commented:"This project demonstrates how, once again, we have worked collaboratively and successfully with our client to ensure their needs are met in terms of logistics and communication.

"We recognise and understand the disruption that our work can bring due the nature of the removal and are keen to plan with both clients and end users to consistently achieve the best possible outcome."
